Obtaining Celestia Educational Activities

Celestia is a sophisticated program employing advanced graphics. Celestia161-ED runs on many
computers but it will not perform satisfactorily on all computers. In general, to experience
Celestia161-ED properly, your home or school computers should have the following desired
capabilities:
- A CPU speed of at least 1 GHz
- An operating system running Windows® 98, XP, Vista or Windows 7
- A RAM memory of at least 1 GB
- An Open GL video graphics card with at least 128 MB of video RAM (256 - 512 MB preferred)
- Free memory on your hard drive of at least 4 Gigabytes
- A 14” or bigger color monitor, or LCD-LED Projector and screen
- Computer sound speakers (optional), preferably with some bass sound
- Mouse and keyboard
- Apple QuickTime® (available free from here)
- Internet connection (optional)
- Microsoft Word 2002 or later, or openoffice 3.0 or later

Teachers: The complete Celestia Educational Activities series is ideal for use in middle
and high school Earth Science and Astronomy, and in introductory college courses in Astronomy.
The series is available as a self-installing 2-CD set or as a self-installing DVD. License
installation can be done on individual school computers, or on a single school server that can be
accessed from other computers in the school. Directions for installation and individual school
computer setup are contained in a separate “Letter to Users and Educators” that is
included with the CD or DVD.
Unlike other astronomy software programs that charge thousands of $ dollars for a school-wide
license, the school license fee for Celestia Educational Activities is very modest.

Since the Activities contain 2.8 GB of data files, Installation will involve sequential downloads
of 14 large zipped files, plus unzipping and sequential installation into specific Celestia directories
